Our Dreamy Destination Wedding (in the Cape Winelands)

After five long years of waiting, we finally celebrated our much anticipated white wedding. We chose the exquisite Cape Winelands as a nod to my heritage, and it was the perfect destination to wow our guests and introduce them to stunning South Africa. It was quite something to have so many loved ones fly in from all parts of the globe to celebrate us, and seeing my home country through the eyes of foreigners is a feeling I won’t forget. The beauty of South Africa blew people away and it doubled up as a once in a lifetime holiday. The arduous wait and painstaking process of planning a destination wedding was so worth it, and my heart is so full that we finally got to have our special day.

10 years of grieving and sibling loss

I originally wrote this post on Friday, 9 May 2014. I was just 24 years old and was deep in the pit of grief and loss. My brother, Wesley, had passed away just months beforehand. I want to give this space on my blog because I think it’s beautifully raw, and many of the feelings are still fresh to this day.

My Birth Story – A 3 day labour (of love)

APRIL FOOLS BABY, YOU’RE OVERDUE!

My much anticipated due date arrived and I was disappointed that labour hadn’t begun. I wasn’t going to have an April Fools baby like I had hoped and so I reluctantly headed to my 40-week midwife appointment for a sweep. Lo and behold, I shortly lost my mucus plug and knew things were happening. On Sunday 3^rd April 2022, I woke up to slight period pain. Understanding the importance of keeping UFO (upright, forwards and open) my mom and I headed over to Borough Market for some sightseeing and a much-needed distraction. The day progressed and my surges started to get stronger, and so ensued my breathing exercises and the hypnobirthing techniques I had so diligently spent nine months practicing for this very moment.

Pregnancy After Loss – My Experience

In May 2021, I was completely blindsided at my 12 week scan. I had suffered a missed miscarriage which I wrote about in depth here. Devastated and defeated, our entire world was shaken as we navigated grief and our empty arms. Fast forward to just a few months later, and we were blessed beyond. I was pregnant again.
